Day of Caring
15 Sep 2006 15:05Today is the United Way's Day of Caring -- this year I helped with cleaning apartments of low income/disabled seniors.
I enjoy doing this and wish that the big corps (including my own) would do it more than once a year, though we made a big change last year.
Last year at this time they announced that they would also pay through out the year to qualified charities if you did volunteer work for them -- with the understanding that you had to put in a minimum of 20 hours before they would pay.
So, what that meant for various orgs that I belong to/or work with is that if I put in 20+ hours of volunteer work (book keeping, cleaning, phones, whatever) I can fill out a form and my company will cut a check for $17.00 for every hour that I put in as a volunteer. Pretty spiffy all in all.
And how is your day going???
