Day 09 – Your beliefs

I believe that ones beliefs are personal and private and should only be shared when requested. Given that statement I will say that today's prompt is like a request so I will share my beliefs with you. I feel any question asked should be answered.
My icon today sums up a goodly part of my beliefs in one small square.
I am a Witch and have been for 30 years (give or take a few months).
I was raised as a somewhat lapsed non-denominational Christian. My father had a disagreement with the church when I was very small and that ended our going to services as a family. My maternal grandmother would swing by our house on Sundays and take any of us kids interested in attending services with her so I always had a way to attend services.
Over the years I attended services at a WIDE variety of Christian denomination churches but never found any one that fulfilled me. There was always something missing or the message just felt wrong to me.
After failed trips to camp, VBS galore, and attempts to immerse my self into the teen Christian centers of my friends I turned to looking elsewhere.
Books were rare to find 30 years ago on the Craft and there was nothing like the selection you find at bookstores everywhere now days. Instead you had to find a teacher, someone who already had made the journey and ask if they could teach you. Luckily enough I found my teacher and husband in one package.
I am not going to go into depth on what my beliefs about Witchcraft is. If you want more information, then please ask. One of the reasons that I could not remain in the Christian faith was then requirement that you go out and convert your friends, family and even strangers on the street on a daily basis.
For me religion is such a intensely private practice that to do as the pastors wanted felt like prostitution to me.
I feel strongly that belief, worship, faith and religion are personal choices and that no one religion can fulfill the needs for everyone. If a religion could meet the needs of everyone it touched there wouldn't be multiple versions of the Baptist church, or the Catholic church or the Episcopalian.... I hope you understand what I am trying to say here.
Back to my icon. I am a Daughter of the Morrigan. If you have questions, please ask.
