Well.... I am doing some what better.... but I am still not the happiest of campers.

The spouse and I were tallying up the cost of the month of December....and even discounting the normal holiday purchases this month has cost us somewhere in the neighborhood of $20,000. Yeah. $20,000.

The new hot water heater is temporarily installed in the center of middle spawns closet as the actual space it goes into has to have the flooring replaced....yeah....that'll be more money added into the month even though we won't have the chance to do anything about it for a week or so. Once the floor is replaced, then we can have the tank moved back into to its concealed position. The other option is to have it moved into the laundry area where it will be easier to access, however that will take some re-plumbing and rewiring. Either way its a few hundred bucks more for future spending.

I am thankful that the following has happened while all this was going on:

1. No trees came down on our property or our buildings during the wind storm. And while it is true that we were without power for 1 week during some pretty frigid temps and we lost a refrigerator and two freezers full of food, we came through it all reasonably healthy and whole.

2. When we lost power the day after Christmas for 24 hours (more or less) due to the 4 and half inches of heavy wet snow that took down some of the temporary power lines that had just been re-strung a few days before, it was only for roughly 24 hours and even though the snow is still here (at least where we live), the roads are clear and we are able to get to where we need to go.

3. Although the car was totaled in the t-bone wreck, the girls only suffered bruises and a few contusions. No broken bones. We can deal with the car. I don't think that I could have dealt with something serious happening to the girls as well.

4. The hot water heater did not explode.

5. We have finally gotten the wood stove fixed so we have a secondary heat source.

We have incredible friends, both those online and those who live nearby. I would be in much worse shape without you all.

I look forward to the New Year being a better one.
