My lovely spouse posted a wonderful story for me and as he normally flocks all his posts I am reposting it here for friends and family who may not have him friended to read...

A Modern Faery Tale
That is, one without fairies.

Once upon a time there was a hermit who thought he was content and happy. He lived, quietly, in a cave rarely visited by anyone.

One day, while out with friends, he met a beautiful princess - or so he thought. The truth of the matter was that she was actually a powerful sorceress who had plans for him!

Over a period of days, by providing transportation in her magic carriage for him, she managed to convince him of her good intentions, and he allowed her into his cave.

Once there, she saw what a hovel it truly was, and became appalled that anyone could stand to live in such a manner.

Within weeks, she had coerced her way into his heart, by bespelling him such that he could no longer be content and happy in his tiny cave, or without her. In vain, he tried to break the spell, travelling a great distance to where he knew friendly witches and magicians. However, the spell of the Sorceress was too strong, and no one could break it, and the entire time he was gone, all he could think of was her and how long it would be until they would be together again.

Although all was going according to her plan, the Sorceress was not without problems of her own, for her parents, the evil Queen and King, felt that the hermit was far too old for her, for she was barely ten and nine years of age; and they commanded that she should not wed with him, for he was ancient and eight years more advanced in age than she: "Live with him, if you want to, but don't marry him!"

This brought her to tears, as she considered it all. When the hermit saw her in this manner, his heart was torn, for he could not bear to see her suffer, and her told her "Let's just get married now, instead of later."

And thus it came to be, that within the space of three months of their fateful meeting, the Sorceress wed the Hermit, and they lived mostly happily ever after.

And that's the end of my story for now. If you want to know more, check back in 25 more years and see if they are still together.

Happy birthday, darling, and come December, Happy 25th Anniversary. To paraphrase Jimmy Buffett, "some of it's magic, and some of it's tragic, but it's been a good life all the way."

Your Crabby Hermit.
