nephirThis is the hardest one so far for me. I've many 'best friends' and to name them all is weird but to leave any out is rude.
#1 The Spouse. We've been together 29 years and while we have our ups and downs, who doesn't? He's my rock when I need him to be steadfast and strong, and he's never afraid to show his emotions. While I can look back and think about being married to some of the other guys I dated, none compare to him.
#2 StuJay. We've been buds for 20+ years. We've had our times when we didn't talk to one another due to miscommunication, but those have been in the far past at this point. He's my lunch buddy, my go to guy for advice, and he occasionally beta reads my porn for me to make sure the mechanics works between two guys.
#3 My Spawn. Yeah, I know you aren't supposed to be friends with your children *whatever* but my mom was my best friend while she was alive and I feel that its wrong to hold that option away from my girls. Each fulfill a different role with me in the friendship sweepstakes and I would be poorer to not have them as friends.
#4 My Mom. Gone now for 2+ years. I miss her daily. I miss asking her advice and just catching up on the family gossip.
There have been others over the years, some who's orbit occasionally meshes back into synch with mine, but these are my top ones.
A best friend is someone that will listen in sympathy as you bitch about others in your life and when you are ready to hear the truths, no matter how painful, they will tell them to you.
