now that I have that off my chest -- a crack plot bunny from me and my honey..

Herb: Dumbledore is a Phoenix animagus and cannot truly die because of it. That's how he defeated Grindewald...
Me: So Harry must be one too. That explains why Dumbledore would encourage an 11 y.o. boy to fight the monster.
Herb: *nods in agreement*
Me: it also explains the missing time between the death of Lilly and James and Harry being dropped off at the Dursleys. They had to wait until he regenrated to his actual age -- the phoenix manifesting is what actually destroyed Goderic's Hollow.
