Day 11 – Your siblings

nephirWow... my siblings. This is difficult and I tend to be ...bitter.... about it.
I am the youngest of three living children. I have a brother and a sister. Both are much older than I am, and in-between them and myself there were a couple of miscarriages and one preemie that did not survive.
My brother is not a part of my life and has not been for several years. He chose early in his life to play on the other side of the law and to prefer to waste his time with drugs and alcohol. Why we don't have anything to say to one another is that he also has children, close in age to my own that he's not been there for. While in the custody of he and their mother they suffered abuse and neglect. Mom took them to court and sued for custody to give them a stable home life. Since then my brother has returned again to prison and will be there for the rest of his foreseeable life.
My sister and I have an on and off again relationship. We try to keep in touch but fail more often than succeed, and its as much my own fault as it is hers. Partially it is distance, we are on opposite corners of the country from one another so it's hard to pop down for a quick cup of coffee and to sit and chat. Partially it's inertia. We try our best with the occasional phone calls and emails.
We were able to get together last year before the winter holidays to meet up with others from our mother's family to celebrate the 100th birthday of our grandmother.
