Friday falling down and some fic recs....

*begin emo music*.... no wait, that's not it. *shakes head and clears out emo thoughts*... cue *groove music*

Its been 5 months since Mom passed on, and there isn't a Sunday that goes by that I don't itch to call her phone and hear her voice.
The pain of missing her comes and goes like the tides of the moon and the ocean. Some weeks are better than others and occasionally a high tide will sweep in and all I want to do is sob.

In trying to distract myself when I get melancholy and moody I've been re-reading a lot of my old fandoms and trying on new ones for size.

The Harry Potter fandom is alive and well in some areas and I personally prefer to believe that nothing past the 4th book has ever happened, and read mainly in that area, or strange wandering AUs based off of that. It makes me happy to see Sirius alive, Dumbledore scheming and Ginny safely not a romantic interest.

The BtVS fandom seems to have begun slowing down. Which makes me very sad. I love stories about the Scoobies, especially ones that don't tend to bash other characters too much. I like a strong and supported Xander, a Buffy that thinks of her friends and family, a Willow who still giggles and bakes... etc.
I also love long drawn out sagas detailing what happened to characters after Sunnydale folded. I've been re-reading Tabaqui & Reremouse's No More Snakes and Ladders this week while traveling to and from work. *happy sigh*

SG1 & SGA fandoms offer up so much. I love Jack & Daniel and spent a couple of weeks re-reading Biblio and Phoenix's takes on their relationship. They were my first step into the SG1 fandom and still reside as some of my favorites. Not to say I haven't read Jack/Teal'c and Daniel/Teal'c and variations of others in the show (Janet/Daniel anyone?) but I prefer to stay far far away from Jack/Sam. I love a good Jack/Sara reconciliation story (Lady Ra's First Prime and its side story First Guardian are lovely examples of that with a hefty dose of Danial/Teal'c as the main pairing that allows Sam to be friends with both Jack and (eventually) Sara without a lot of angst.
I've finally found some SGA that I'll read (no offense to many of my online friends but I truly don't like McShep, it's just not my cup o' tea) and a lot of them are crossovers of a sort, but not all. I stumbled across the Retrograde series by Martha Wilson and others on Watergate and found a version of SGA I could get into to. I highly recommend it.
I also found a Torchwood/SGA crossover and a SGA/Chuthlu Mythos crossovers that I throw out for all to read with abandon. For the SGA/Chuthlu Mythos one, go to WraithBait and look for La Chatte Noir's wonderful The Shadow over Atlantis series. For the Torchwood/SGA story it's on Live Journal and is A Ring in the Black Sea by Basingstroke.

Well... I suppose that I should actually get back to work, but I couldn't resist a little break here.
